Consider me a heavy Wick-it fan. Ever since I heard his Beastie Boys remix of “No Sleep Til Brooklyn”, I was hooked. Now he’s back with an M.I.A. mashup/electronic masterpiece. As soon as it hit the :25 second mark, I was all “hell yea”. It’s funny – I used to be into strictly pop music – I still am, but now I love hearing absurd remixes of pop and hip-hop songs. I think a lot of people are starting to feel that way though. It’s just so…cool. Anyway, keep it coming Wick-it. You’re the bomb dot com.

M.I.A. just released a new song called “27″, honoring Amy Winehouse’s unexpected death at the age of 27. Amy joins the “27 Club”, a group of singers who died tragically young at the age of 27 (all from drug addiction). Many are shunning M.I.A., pulling the “too soon” card. Personally, I think it was a good time for M.I.A. to release the song, as she had written it awhile ago. Click on the YouTube video for the lyrics. What do you think – too soon or just right?

I’m shocked. Thoroughly dumbstruck by how well these two songs from completely different spectrums of music fit. It’s a match made in heaven with two of my favorite artists. The Queen compliments M.I.A.’s track so sweetly, and “How I Roll” is one of my faves off Brit’s new album. This is such a chill, awesome jam. I don’t even know who made this mashup, but feel free to come forward if it was you, because it’s REAL nice. Good job.

    C.T.F.O. (Feat. M.I.A.)

Ready for some M.I.A.-infused French electro music? BAM It’s right here. You may be familiar with the friendly expression, “GTFO”. Well M.I.A. likes to say “CTFO”, or “chill the f**k out”. This term can be used when speaking to friends who are stressed, family who is rowdy, superiors who have power-complexes (if precluded by “No offense, but..”, of course…), or in foreign electronic songs.  I am going to begin using it in casual conversation. Often. Abbrevs are the shi.

    “VICKI LEEKZ” (Click to DL)

    M.I.A. dropped a new mixtape on New Year’s Eve – it’s called “VICKI LEEKZ”. Get it…like, Wikileaks…

I haven’t listened all the way through yet, but so far it’s not as epic as I was expecting. It feels a bit lazy. First of all, it’s not separated into different tracks, which sparks my OCD. Ugh, bother.  On another note, she samples her track “Steppin’ Up” off MAYA around the 9:00 mark. Love that song. Also, the 12:00 mark is really good. I’m listening to it as I’m posting this which is why I sound so flippity floppy. Anyway I thought I’d just throw it up and you can judge for yourself.
